A Place to go
| OTARU |
From Sapporo, participants take the Ishikari Liner express train service to Otaru, which faces Ishikari Bay on the Sea of Japan coast. Otaru was once home to a thriving herring fishery, and later developed as a port serving Sapporo. The Otaru Canal area preserves the atmosphere of the early twentieth century with its red-brick warehouses, now home to a variety of restaurants and boutiques. Otaru is now well known for handcrafted glass products and the area around the Otaru City Museum is home to many small galleries and boutiques offering handcrafted glass and such things as music boxes. |
