A Place to go

Itsukushima Shinto Shrine (a World Heritage site) is a splendid structure of vermillion-lacquered corridors with the sacred Mount Misen as a backdrop. Said to have been founded in 593, the building's current appearance was established in 1168. At full tide the structure seems to be floating on the sea, a unique and highly attractive feature. The torii gate standing majestically in the bay in front of the shrine, which was traditionally approached by boat, is one of Japan's most famous sights.
